That thought along with the little voice in the back of my head would haunt me saying, ‘you really should have a business plan!’
Ok, so maybe I did write one up, but I can tell you I had a sour face on the whole time and it took all my might just to get through it. So you know what? It ended up being boring and shoved in the drawer of my desk or filed in my file cabinet…….I honestly can tell you, I really have no darn clue where that plan is. And you know what, that’s ok too because I wouldn’t be inspired by it anyway.
Enter the Right Brain Business Plan by Jennifer Lee (for us creative spirits)!
Here’s how the story unfolded: Somehow I received an email about an event called The Right Brain Business Plan Video Summit. It caught my eye and so I kept reading. Then when I saw who was going to be a part of this event (Goddess Leonie) I signed up right away. And I am so grateful that I did.
I bought the book and I cannot tell you how excited I am to create a business plan! One that will inspire and motivate me and help me understand even more the type of business I want to have.
So Jennifer Lee was kind enough to stop by my blog on her blog tour book launch and answer some questions about the process of and tools for creating a Right Brain Business Plan!
What makes the Right-Brain Business Plan different than a traditional business planning approach?
First off, would a traditional business plan include feathers and glitter?! I think not :). Rather than stay stuck or intimidated trying to muscle through a formal, stodgy format, the Right-Brain Business Plan encourages you to take a creative and visual approach to planning your business. A RBBP still covers the basic building blocks that would go into a traditional plan but you get to work with your imagination, creativity, and heart.
What are your favorite creative business planning tools and resources?
In terms of tools, I love sticky notes, colorful markers and big sheets of paper. I also swear by Levenger Circa notebooks for organizing my materials and stylish boxes to hide my stacks and stacks of paper.
What are a couple of your goals for the year?
Launch my Right-Brain Business PlanTM Kit by 2nd quarter and develop a Right-Brain Business PlanTM licensing program by the end of the year.
A personal goal is to take a week-long vacation to Hawaii with my husband to celebrate our 10th year anniversary.
What are some Right-Brain Business Plan success stories that you can share with us?
When Kristina Ender took the Right-Brain Business Plan e-Course in 2010 she had a private coaching practice and worked as a Pilates instructor. Working on her RBBP helped her realize that she wanted to have creative partners to expand her business. Since then she’s co-founded a wellness center and launched a partnership with a fellow coach to develop programs, retreats, and products.
What advice do you have for people just starting out in their creative business (or for more seasoned entrepreneurs)?
Be willing to invest in yourself and in your business. Rather than constricting your energy by telling yourself you can’t afford to hire that assistant or to get those much-needed supplies, ask yourself what can you sell or provide to clients to cover that cost (and earn more!). You’ll encourage a flow of money and you’ll grow your business at the same time.
What do you do to stay creatively inspired in your business?
Connecting with like-minded creative souls, talking with my Nurture Huddle, working with my business coach, practicing self-care Fridays.
Where can we find out more information?
